Charlotta ran into Hanse Confidence
The "Hanse Confidence" was in collision with the "Charlotta" in the port of Hamburg on Sep 19 at 3.45 p.m. The "Charlotta" ran into the stern of the "Hanse Confident" which suffered a leak. The fire rescue and technical support work (THW) were called and rushed to the scene with about 100 men in order to dewater the vessel. Supported by boats of the fire rescue, they started pumping out the stern with pumps with a capacity of 10 tons per minute, while at the same time containers were lifted from the deck. The engine room and the steering room were flooed and the ship was down by the stern and for some time in danger of capsizing or sinking. Tugs pushed the ship against the quay in order to stabilize it. Divers of the fire rescue tried to patch the leak. It was expected that the work to save the vessel would last during the whole night. Obviously the "Charlotta" was running quite fast when hitting into the "Hanse Confidence". She berthed at Eurogate with a large gash in the portside bow above the waterline.
