Gérard Schmitter repaired
After repairs of the "Gérard Schmitter" were completed, the ship resumed its voyage from Uerdingen on June 18 at 10 a.m., reaching Koblenz as next port of call in the late evening.
River cruise ship evacuated after fire
The engine room of the "Gerard Schmitter" caught fire due to a technical malfunction on the Rhine while berthing in Krefeld in the evening of June 16, 2012. The 154 passengers, who were underway from Amsterdam to Strasbourg, and the crew of 34 had to be evacuated. One woman suffered a breakdown and was taken to hospital, one crew member was slightly injured. The fire in the wiring caused strong smoke develpoment. The fire brigade Krefeld was on scene with two fire engines, and the fire was extinguished within short time. Also four ambulances were on scene. The passengers, who had been taken to Krefeld by coach in the meantime could reboard the ship at 10.30 p.m. However, repairs will last until June 18. The police Duisbug launched an investigation.
