Medevac off Corpus Christi
The US Coast Guard medevaced one ailing crewman from a tanker vessel approximately 50 miles southeast of Corpus Christi, on Sep 15, 2023. Coast Guard Eighth District command center watchstanders received a call on Sep 12 at 3:45 p.m. from the tanker, stating a 28-year-old crew member had been ill for five days. Watchstanders consulted with the duty flight surgeon, who recommended the tanker to continue towards the port of destination, Corpus Christi. and continuously reassess the man’s condition. On Spe 15 at 8:40 a.m. the tanker contacted Coast Guard watchstanders and reported that the man’s condition had not improved. The duty flight surgeon recommended a medevac. An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew and HC-144 Ocean Sentry airplane from Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi were launched to assist. The helicopter hoisted the man and transported the patient to the Spohn Hospital Corpus Christi - Shoreline. He was last reported to be in stable condition.
