Wed Mar 06 12:13:10 CET 2019 Timsen

Aboard the "African Gem", while in position 003 04 48 N, 006 01 48 E, about 70 miles south of Brass, Nigeria, the duty officer noticed on radar two targets at a distance of four miles on Feb 27, 2019, at 8 p.m. At two miles the targets were seen to cross the stern of the tanker, increase speed and then approach the tanker at high speed. As the skiffs closed in on the tanker, pirates in the skiffs opened fire. The embarked Nigerian naval personnel on board the "African Gem" returned fire.
