Demanding rescue operation after trawler was caught under bridge
In the morning of Mar 12, 2015, the "Geir Roger" got in trouble at the Tromsø Bridge. Two NSSR boats and a patrol boat of the police came out after the trawler cwas pushed against the pylons of the bridge and started to list to starboard. The "Barents Ocean" (MMSI: 257264500) of Arctic Seaworks was nearby and clarified that they were best equipped for a rescue mission. The rescue operation was difficult because there were strong currents and high winds in the area. But they managed to tow the boat back a bit and then released it so it got past the bridge bow first. After the successful rescue the police checked whether the ship had suffered damage. The problems arose when the "Geir Ocean" was caught by strong winds under the bridge. Fishing boat caught by gas tanker
The season was over for the crew of the "Geir Roger" after its net got caught by a gas tanker on Oct 3, 2012, at 10 a.m. in the Sørøy Sound off Hammerfest. The gas tanker was anchored and waiting for cargo from Melkøya outside Hammerfest. The skipper of the "Geir Roger" miscalculated the current, and got entangled in the tanker's propulsion. It could only be freed with the help of a lifeboat and divers. The net thereby was ripped.
