Geestemünde assisted sinking cabin cruiser
In the afternoon of Aug 13, 2014, the "Geestemünde" assisted a sinking cabin cruiser along with the lifeboat "Hermann Rudolf Meyer" of the DGzRS Station Bremerhaven. The crew of the "Geestemünde" remarked at 3.30 p.m. that the 10 meter cruiser was in difficulties on the Lower Weser near the Kaiser Lock after having hit a drifting obstruction. The boat with a crew of two had suffered a gash of 10x80 centimeters in the foreship underneath the waterline and was flooding rapidly. The "Geestemünde" took the casualty in towe and secured it, until the lifeboat had arrived and started strong dewatering pumps which recovered 2-3 tons of water from the boat which would have foundered a few minutes later. They managed to Keep it afloat until it was towed into port and taken ashore by a crane.
