Part of cargo removed
The 'Gas Prodigy' was remaining at anchor in a designated safe zone off Fuzhou, though the works to fix the faulty flange, which were carried out beeween Feb 11 and Feb 23, were a partial success. The tanker was still considered to be too dangerous to berth in port to offload the cargo of liquid propylene. The cargo from a tank with a faulty flange was loaded onto a barge in a ship to ship transfer which lasted from Feb 29 until March 1.
Explosion risk on tanker
The 'Gas Prodigy', being loaded with 2,400 tons of liquid propylene, which had arrived at the Fuzhou Chemical Terminal, Fujian Province, on Feb 10, 2020, coming from the Limay Terminals, suffered a leak in a flange of a pump of cargo tank no.1 during offload preparations. Due to the risk of a leakage of propylene gas, the tanker was taken to the Jiangyinzhen Anchorage and moored in pos. 25° 21.41' N 119° 24.90' E. A safety zone was established around the ship due to the risk of fire and explosion as a propylene mixture with air could be highly inflammable. A technical team boarded tanker in the evening of Feb 12 to fix the problem. On Feb 13 repairs were still under way.
