Tanker and reefer vessel collide in thick fog in Channel
Two ships collided in thick fog on saturday in the Channel. It happened just before 10.15am, six miles off Dungeness, Kent, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said. Visibility was under half a mile at the time, but there were no injuries. The Gas Arctic, a Malta-registered tanker heading for Portland, Dorset, and the Spring Bok, a cargo ship registered in the Netherlands sailing for Aruba in the Caribbean, were involved. Dover Coastguard called on the Dungeness lifeboat and the Naval patrol vessel HMS Tyne, which was nearby, for assistance. Watch officer Phil Davies said: “The vessels both incurred damage above the waterline but are capable of making their way to Portland.
