Crew member lost over board

Sat Mar 24 18:45:43 CET 2018 Timsen

A man believed to be from the Philippines went missing at sea while on board the "Galloway Express" en route to Townsville in north Queensland, triggering an investigation into possible foul play, on March 13, 2018. The family were not told for several days afterwards, The ship was chartered by Harmony Agriculture. The International Transport Workers Federation (ITWF) began investigations into the incident once informed by the family. The delegation from the ITWF was frustrated by the length of time taken before they were allowed to board the ship in Townsville. The ITWF had called on Australian Federal Police to intervene in the case, as the Queensland police might not have correct jurisdiction to investigate on the Singaporean-flagged carrier. The AMSA swas aware of the report of a man overboard, having been advised by the ship's master on March 14 that this occurred en route to Australia. At the time, the ship was outside Australian waters in the Flores Sea, north of Timor. A search was carried out by local authorities but was later suspended after no signs of the missing person were found.. The ship arrived in the Port of Townsville on March 20, where AMSA understood Queensland police and Australian Border Force (ABF) officers attended the ship upon its arrival. The ABF conducted routine 'first port boarding' procedures and assisted QPS with a vessel search. AMSA will attend the ship to conduct an unrelated livestock pre-loading inspection and check on the crew's welfare.

Thu Dec 24 12:21:15 CET 2015 arnekiel

The last live cattle export ship to load in Darwin for 2015 will leave for Indonesia later today, capping off a significant year for the industry. The Galloway Express, leased by North Australian Cattle Company (NACC), will soon set course for Jakarta with 4,100 head on board. Media player: "Space" to play, "M" to mute, "left" and "right" to seek. 00:00 00:00 AUDIO: Patrick Underwood says the Galloway Express will be last ship for 2015. (ABC Rural) Export prices continue to hold at a record $3.50 a kilogram, with over 470,000 head shipped to various overseas markets from Darwin throughout the year. NACC manager Patrick Underwood said the last of his Indonesia import permits would be consigned on this shipment. "These will be going into Jakarta, on the Galloway," he said. "It will take about four days to get there. "So they should arrive on December 28, off the vessel, before December 31, which is basically the rule with Indonesia — all your 2015 cattle have got to be in there by the end of the year." http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-12-24/north-australian-cattle-company-live-export-galloway-express/7051634
