Water ingress off Fraserburgh

Fri Mar 19 11:04:33 CET 2021 Timsen

The 'Guide Us - FR 4', 109 gt, suffered water ingress 40 miles NE of Fraserburgh with four crew members on board in position 57 41 28.0 N, 002 000 06.0 W on March 17, 2021, at 8.40 p.m. The RNLI Fraserburgh lifeboat 'Willie & May Gall' was tasked at 10.30 p.m. by the Coastguard. The vessel was making its way to te port but its own pumps were hardly coping with the volume of water coming in. The lifeboat was able to leave the harbour within minutes of being paged. It met the vessel which was steaming towards Fraserburgh around 28 miles out. Coxswain Sutherland manoeuvred the lifeboat next to the ship, and the crew was able to transfer another pump, hose and fuel on board. The extra pump helped, and the casualty was able to make it back to port safely under its own steam while the lifeboat provided an escort. Drifting fishing vessel saved from grounding on rocks

Fri Jan 24 10:59:37 CET 2014 Timsen

The "Guide Us - FR 4" was drifting towards rocks near Durinish Pt. on Jan 23, 2014, and sparked a rescue mission involving a Kyle-based RNLI lifeboat crew. Around 9.40 a.m. the Kyle of Lochalsh and Portree RNLI crews were paged to assist the fishing vessel which was disabled and drifting towards rocks near Durinish Pt. Both lifeboats were launched at the request of Stornoway Coastguard, after the mayday call was received from the fishing vessel, whose nets became snagged in the propeller, disabling their engine. Two nearby vessels, the "Jamiain II" and the "Harvest Anne"m had also responded to the mayday call and by the time the Kyle lifeboat arrived on scene the "Jamiain II" already had taken the vessel under tow and was keeping the stricken boat from drifting onto the rocks. The Kyle lifeboat checked the condition of the three crew members on board and stayed on scene to monitor the situation. Shortly thereafter as the weather worsened, the tow parted and the vessel began drifting towards the shore once more. Kyle lifeboat assisted the larger "Harvest Anne" to get another line on board and take the disabled vessel under tow once more. The "Harvest Anne" and the Kyle Lifeboat held the fishing vessel just off the shoreline until the Portree lifeboat arrived, when the tow was transferred over to the larger lifeboat. The Kyle lifeboat escorted Portree lifeboat and the fishing vessel into Kyleakin harbour at 12.30pm before both lifeboats returned to their stations.
