The "Sailfort" which had run aground on a sandbar on Oct 22 at the entrance of the port, between Ciboure and Saint-Jean-de-Luz, was refloated with the rising tide after more than seven hours. The ship righted itself, and it finally left the port at 3 p.m. It had withstood the grounding without damage. Trawler aground in Saint Jean de Luz

Mon Oct 22 10:50:47 CEST 2018 Timsen

The "Sailfort - SN 916455" ran aground in the entrance of the port of Saint-Jean-de-Luz on Oct 22, 2018, at 7 a.m. on a sandbar. The trawler had deviated from its course to let another boat pass. His captain, though accustomed to the port, found his ship then trapped during his maneuver due to the low water level. The ship listed to starboard side as the tide dropped, but the situation was under control. The crew was now waiting for the tide to rise with the highest level expected around 4 p.m. French report with photo and video: https://www.sudouest.fr/2018/10/22/video-saint-jean-de-luz-un-chalutier-s-echoue-sur-un-banc-de-sable-a-la-sortie-du-port-5501573-4018.php
