Fishing vessel towed to Cariño

The "Playa de Bares", with eight crew members on board, suffered a failure in its steering system on the Galician coast, in the Ortigueira Estuary, just 2.7 nautical miles north of Ortegal, on the night of Nov 11, 2024, and needed urgent assistance at around 9:50 p.m. The failure in its steering system prevented it from controlling its course. The crew of the "Playa de Bares" activated the safety protocols and informedthe maritime authorities. The SAR boat 'Salvamar Shaula' was mobilized to assist by Salvamento Marítimo. Iit proceeded to tow the fishing vessel to the Port of Cariño, where it arrived at around 11:15 p.m. The emergency coordination was carried out by the Fisterra Maritime Rescue Centre.

On May 11, 2021, at 5.45 a.m. the 'Playa de Bares' suffered an engine failure about 28 miles north of Burela (Lugo) and requested assistance. The SAR boat 'Salvamar Shaula' was mobilized by Salvamento Marítimo from its base in Cariño. It established at towing connection at 7.30 a.m. and pulled the casualty safely back to port where the convoy arrived at around 2.30 p.m.

On Sep 4, 2019, the ‘Playa de Bares‘ was disabled in the Bay of Biscay. The SAR ship 'Salvamar Shaula‘ (MMSI: 224033840) of the Salvamento Marítimo station in Cariño was tasked to assist.
