Medevac off Penmarc'h

On Mar 17, 2016 at 1 p.m the CROSS Etel was alerted by the "Magellan" because a Portuguese crew member, aged 31, was suffering from respiratory failure and severe pain in the spine. During a conference call with the Maritime Medical Consultation Centre (MMCC) in Toulouse and the crew of the trawler, the decision was made to evacuate the sailor by helicopter to a hospital. The "Magellan" was located 75 miles off the southwestern tip of Penmarc'h. After a second conference with the Maritime Medical Coordination SAMU in Finistère and the ship, it was decided to take him to the Hospital Cavale Blanche in Brest. The CROSS Etel dispatched a Cayman helicopter of the naval air base Lanvéoc Poulmic with a medical team on board. The helicopter took off at 1:48 p.m. and reached the ship fifty minutes later. The sailor was hoisted aboard the Cayman at 3:12 p.m. and was delivered at the Hospital at 3.49 p.m.
