Fisherman injured in fall over board and medevaced

Sun Sep 05 18:48:20 CEST 2021 Timsen

On Sep 4, 2021 at around 9:30 p.m., the CROSS Jobourg was informed by the "Hera" that one of its crew members was injured after falling on board. The ship was then 12 nautical miles off Guernsey. The CROSS initiated a conference call with the Toulouse Maritime Medical Consultation Center (CCMM) and the fishing vessel, but communication was impossible. In agreement with the maritime medical consultation center and the maritime medical coordination SAMU of Le Havre, a medical evacuation was decided. The CROSS Jobourg deployed a Caïman helicopter from the 33F flotilla of the French Navy, based in Maupertus, with a team from the medical center of the army health service of Querqueville on board to carry out the evacuation. After receiving first aid from the medical team placed on board the ship, the crew member was hoisted aboard the helicopter. He was dropped off in Querqueville and taken care of by an ambulance the Cherbourg firefighters to be transferred to the Pasteur hospital in Cherbourg.
