Master charged for under-recording of catch

Eusebio Sanjorge Allariz, the master of the 'Gonpez I', pleaded guilty at Bantry District Court on the Sep 38 to a charge of under-recording of catch of Megrims by 1,150 kgs in contravention of EU regulations. The offence was detected during an inspection by SFPA Sea-Fisheries Protection Officers in Castletownbere on Sep 29, following which the vessel was detained by the SFPA and An Garda Síochána. Mr. Sanjorge Allariz was convicted and fined €2,500.

Medevac in Gran Sol

A crew member of the 'Goinpez I', who required immediate hospitalization in Gran Sol, was medvaced by the Spanish Navy on Sep 21, 2023. The patient was transported to the hospital ship "Esperanza del Mar", the largest hospital ship in the world, to receive specialized medical care. On Sep 23, the weather conditions allowed the sailor to be returned to his ship. He had received a medical discharge and was ready to resume his fishing work in the Gran Sol, where he will remain until the trawler returns to Galicia to unload its catch in the Port of Vigo.
