Fishing vessel abandoned off Lann Bihoué
On March 24, 2025, the 'Billabong' suffered water ingress in the Bay of Biscay south of Belle-Île off Lann Bihoué. The fishing vessel requested assistance by the CROSS Etel after having suffered an uncontrolled water ingress. The SNSM dispatched the lifeboat 'SNS 084', which was assisted by a H 160 helicopter from the Marine Nationale. The two crew members were hoisted aboard the helicopter and taken to Lann Bihoué. There were no reports of injuries. On the early morning, the lifeboat 'SNS 084-Président Louis-Bernard' arrived and starting pumping out the water using a motor pump. It then towed the vessel safely to the port of La Turballe, where it arrived at around 7 p.m. The cause of the water ingress was believed to be a ruptured fitting in the seawater pump's cooling system. The crew of the 'Billabong' hoped to repair the damage and depart in the evening.
