Single hand sailor rescued off Antifer

Sat Aug 24 17:53:02 CEST 2024 Timsen

On the evening of Aug 23, 2024, a sailboat sailing off Antifer reported to the CROSS Jobourg that it had a propulsion failure and was having communication and positioning problems, particularly on its VHF. The CROSS deployed the lifeboat 'Président Pierre Huby' from the SNSM station of Le Havre and the 'Croix du Sud', which was sailing in the same area, to provide assistance. A trawler sailing nearby was diverted to locate the sailboat. After a long search in the area, the SNSM reported that the yachtsman appeared to be suffering from hypothermia. The 'Croix du Sud' therefore launched its semi-rigid, transferred its nurse on board the sailboat and carried out a medical assessment of the yachtsman. The CROSS Jobourg then established a telephone conference with the maritime medical consultation center (CCMM) in Toulouse and the nurse from the Croix du Sud. No medical care was recommended by the regulating doctor. The SNSM boat took the sailboat in tow to the port of Le Havre, where the convoy arrived safely early on Aug 24,. Upon arrival at the quay, the yachtsman was taken care of by the firefighters who transferred him to the hospital in Le Havre.
