Trawler being towed to Hafnarfjordur
After the Iceland Coast Guard received an emergency call from the "Frosti" on Oct 2, 2018, at 3.18 p.m. following a firein the engine room, two helicopters of the Coast Guard as well as the patrol boat "Týr", which was in Ísafjarðardjúp, were tasked to assist. The lifeboat of Landsbjargar, the "Gunnar Friðriksson", also attended as well as other ships in the area to the disabled vessel wich was then about 45 nautical miles west-northwest of Straumnes. The fire had been insulated in the engine room, but smoke was on the whole ship except the wheelhouse. At 5.25 p.m. one crew member was medevaced due to smoke inhalation and taken to Isafjordur aboard the Mýflug ambulance helicopter. The other helicopter transported five firefighters from the Fire Department of the Metropolitan Area to the trawler who boarded the "Frosta" at 6 p.m. Shortly after, the "Tyr" came to the scene and started to tow the ship to Hafnarfjordur. Fire in engine room, Coast guard vessel Tyr assisted - vessel to be towed by Tyr to Hafnarfjorour
A fire broke out in the engine room of fishing (general) Frosti (327 gt, built 2001), when the vessel was positioned 60 nautical miles north west of Aoalvik, on the north west corner of Iceland, at around 1500 hrs, on Oct. 2. Trawlers which were fishing close to the vessel came up to it and were ready to assist if needed. The Coast guard vessel Tyr which was positioned nearby sailed towards the vessel and was alongside it around at 1800 hrs. Two helicopters from the Icelandic coast guard were called out and one of them transported a smoke diver on board. According to information the vessel managed to extinguish the fire and operate the auxiliary engine in order to hoist in the trawl. One crew member was lifted from board by one of the helicopters as it was suspected that he suffered from smoke inhalation. According to information the plan is that the vessel will be towed by Tyr to port in Hafnarfjorour. It is estimate that the tow will take around 30 hrs.
