Grounded ferry blocked approach to Juist
The "Frisia VII" ran aground off Juist on Mar 25, 2013, due to extremely low tide. As the ship got stuck in the fairway and blocked the port, the "Frisia II“ with 411 passengers on board had to turn around on its trip in the evening and returned to Norddeich where it docked at 6.30 p.m. 185 passengers spent the night on board. They were supplied with blankets, food and beverages. The other passengers spent the night in surrounding hotels or continued their voyage otherwise. In the foremidday of Mar 26 at 9 p.m. the supplier "Störtebeker" was able to pull off the "Frisia VII" and towed into the port of Juist. Island supplier got stuck in marshland
In the afternoon of Dec 20, 2012, the "Frisia VII" ran aground off Juistabout half a mile off the harbour entrance. SW winds of 6 bf had caused the tide to run one meter below normal and pushed the ferry out of the fairway. The lifeboat "Woltera" of the DGzRS-station Juist was called by the master and tried in vain to pull the ship off in the evening. It was decided to wait for the next flood on Dec 21 at 4.15 a.m. when the 320 hp of the "Woltera" were able to get the "Frisia VII" refloated, supported by the ferry's engine. The ferry docked about 5 a.m. in the port of Juist, escorted by the "Woltera". Immediately unloading of the supply goods for the island started.
