Salvage interrupted after ship was turned around
On MAy 29, the work started to refloat the 'FR Pearl' in Artvin's Hopa district. It was planned to tow to the ship Hopa Port, and in preparation of this it was turned around. The works, however, could not be completed due to technical reasons, and will be restarted in the coming days. Salvage efforts continued
Efforts to salvage the 'FR Pearl', which drifted aground due to the storm on Nov 27 off the coast of Hopa district of Artvin, were continued 13 days after the grounding. After the ship got stuck, the crew of 13 people was evacuated without any problems and was kept on the shore. While the ship was being replenished with fuel, the repair process continued along with intense efforts to re-anchor it. Cargo ship grounded by storm
Due to a storm in Hopa district of Artvin, the 'FR Pearl' was dragged to the shore and then ran aground on Nov 26, 2023, with 12 crew members on board. The ship had unloaded its cargo at Batumi before, and anchored off Hopa in the evening. As of Nov 27, it was stuck in pos. 41° 24.47' N 041° 25.07' E. The crew, six of whom were Turkish citizens, were evacuated with forces of the AFAD, Coast Guard, General Directorate of Security and the fire brigade, supported by medical teams, who participated in the work. They were taken to the hospital for health checks.
