Euronav sells VLCC Flandre for USD 45 million for offshore project

Wed Dec 06 11:40:19 CET 2017 arnekiel

Euronav NV has sold the VLCC Flandre (2004 – 305, 688 dwt) for USD 45 million to a global supplier and operator of offshore floating platforms, the company said in its press release. The Flandre is wholly owned by Euronav and following the recent sale of the Artois (2001 – 298,330 dwt) is the oldest vessel in the Company’s VLCC fleet.

Six seafarers were still missing following the collision between the cargo m/v "Hua Chi 8" and the "Flandre" off the coast of Zhejiang province in China on Aug 31, 2010. Only one of the seven seafarers on board the bulker "Hua Chi 8" has been rescued. The 800-tons vessel sank in a water depth of 80 metres which makes recovery of bodies difficult. The "Flandre" was in ballast at the time of the incident. No oil spill resulted, although Euronav said Flandre sustained minor damage to its bulbous bow.

An empty French oil tanker and a Chinese cargo vessel collided off the coast of China's eastern Zhejiang province on Tuesday, Xinhua News Agency reported. Six people were missing after falling overboard from the Chinese vessel but no oil spill was reported because the tanker, the Flandre, was not carrying oil when the accident occurred at 11:10 a.m. (0310 GMT), Xinhua said, citing the Zhejiang Maritime Safety Administration. The Flandre was sailing to the United Arab Emirates from Ningbo in China, it said. Link: http://af.reuters.com/article/commoditiesNews/idAFTOE67U07T20100831
