Cargo ship grounded off Madura
The Indonesian mine hunter KRI 'Pulau Raas-722' assisted the tug 'Pelangi Escort 3' (IMO:9743887) and the 'Foxhound', after the tug had suffered a blackout, ran out of fuel and suffered damage to the electricity in the North Ketapang Jaya Waters, Madura, on Feb 16, 2023. The 'Foxhound' had run aground at a water depth of nine meters. In an adjacent location, the 'Pelangi Escort 3' had dropped anchor with a blackout. She had assisted the 'Foxhound' which, however, ran aground due to bad weather. A tug was called to tow the 'Pelangi Escort 3' to port. COSCO Shanghai took rescued crew to Sydney
21 Filipino crew members of the "Foxhound" were assisted by the Philippine Consulate General (PCG) in Sydney, Australia after their vessel sank in Northern New Guineain the Vitiaz Strait in Northern New Guinea on Oct 17 due to inclement weather. They were rescued by the "COSCO Shanghai" from their lifeboat. The "COSCO Shanghai" arrived in Port Botany, Sydney, on Oct 22, and the castaways were met onboard the ship by Consul Marford Angeles and Assistance-to-Nationals (ATN) Officer Erlinda Albay of the Philippine Consulate General in Sydney to ascertain their condition. The Consulate made arrangements for a team of Filipino-Australian doctors and a psychologist to conduct medical and psychological examination. They arrived in Manila on Oct 24.
Freighter abandoned and drifted aground
The "Foxhound" suffered water ingress in the afternoonof Oct 17 in the Bismark Sea northeast of Lae. The crew abandoned the vessel which later drifted aground on Long Island in position 05 19S 147 12E.
