Damaged cement carrier enroute to Belgian breakers
In the morning of March 5, the Dutch heavy load carrier "Rolldock Sea" (IMO: 9404704) departed from Hafnarfjörður, carrying the wreck of the "Fjordvik". The ship had been floated into the dock ship on Feb 27 in an operation which lasted from 7 a.m. until 1 p.m. The transport was bound for Ghent, where the "Fjordvik" is to be scrapped, ETA March 10. Fjordvik towed to Hafnarfjörður
The Fjordvik was towed into Hafnarfjörður on Nov 13 at midday. She had been towed out of Keflavík at 08.30 a.m. by the tugs "Jötunn" and "Magni" which are owned by Associated Icelandic Ports. The cement carrier was very low in the water at the stern and there was so much water still inside the hull that it will need weighting down at the bow before it can be pulled into dry dock. Damage to the aft was severe and the biggest gash in the hull was almost two metres long. The "Fjordvik" will be taken into dry dock on Nov 15 and fixed enough to withstand a trip across the sea.
