Smoke development in Kiel alerted people and police

Tue Jun 13 10:35:59 CEST 2017 Timsen

On June 10, 2017, at 7.50 p.m. the police in Kiel was alerted by several witnesses that the "Finnpulp", which was just arriving in Kiel coming from Kotka via Lübeck, had a black exhaust cloud. The ferry was then visited by officials of the Kiel water police immediately after mooring at its berth in the East Shore port in Kiel at 8:40 p.m. In the course of the investigations, it was found out that a pressure valve at the turbocharger of the starboard engine had a defect and the turbocharger was thus no longer fully functional. This led to the strong exhaust gas development. The defect could be remedied before the crew entered the port. A further sailing ban did not have to be pronounced. No indications of criminal or unlawful conduct could be found. The officials, however, found shortcomings in the documentation of the changeover process from heavy fuel oil to gas oil. A report was sent to the competent authority. The ship left again at 12.30 p.m. and berthed in Lomonosov on June 13 at 5.50 a.m. German report with photo: http://forum-schiff.de/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=1377#p137465
