Free Goddess repairs nearing completition
The "Free Goddess" which was hijacked by Somali pirates in February 2012 and released on a ransom in October of that year, is now on the way back in operation after spending more than a year in the port of Salalah. The shipowner, FreeSeas, got 700,000 dollars from the insurance company to make the ship ready to sail again after the 8-month's stay off the Somali coast. But the money did not suffice, and only after an agreement on additional compensation of 1,1 million dollars the work was now being completed.
Free Goddess free
Somali pirates have released the "Free Goddess" and its 21 Filipino crew members after holding the vessel for more than eight months. A ransom was dropped onto the vessel from the air on October 10. The "Free Goddess" is now free and she is heading to Salalah, Oman, for fuel, fresh water and a crew change. The ship had been held at Garad, a haven in Puntland.
