Collision in the Kiel Canal

Thu May 11 22:42:47 CEST 2017 Timsen

On May 10, 2017, at 10.40 a.m. the "Fenja", while transiting the Kiel Canal eastbound from Bremerhaven bound to Copenhagen, was in collision with a charter sailing vessel while overtaking it near Schinkel. Because the distance between both ships was too small, they hit against each other. The vessels could, however, continue to Kiel where the water police launched an investigation. The "Fenja" left the locks in Kiel again at 1 p.m. and continued the voyage to its destination and berthed at the Levant Quay in Copenhagen on May 11 at 8 a.m. mThe police met the passenger sailing vessel on the Kiel Fjord. The officials noticed damage to the ship in a five-digit Euro area. In addition, one female passenger was slightly injured in the collision. Because of missing certificates the captain was banned from sailing further. The officials of the water police initiated criminal and administrative offenses.
