Medevac in Mormuago

Panaji: In a joint operation by the Indian Coast Guard and Mormugao Port Trust, a 31 year old crew member of the 'Fairchem KAtana' was medevaced on Sep 15, 2021, and given treatment after he suffered a serious diabetic complication. A tug of the MPT medevaced Amit Kumar Singh and took him to shore. The tanker had been 250 nautical miles off Goa in the night of Sep 14, when he complaned of uneasiness due to a diabetic ketoacidosis attack. The tanker liaised with the MRCC Mumbai, which alerted the Goa Coast Guard. The vessel was diverted towards Goa, while the port control and local agent were notified. The tanker arrived at the inner anchorage of Mormuago on Sep 15 at 3 a.m., but rough seas hampered the evacuation, and a tug was called. The ship entered the port, and the patient was disembarked onto the 'Ocean Spirit' and dropped off at PMP berth no. 10. A mdical team of the Coast Guard provided first aid, before he was taken to a hospital in Chicalim.
