On July 15, 2019, the "Faaborg III" which sails between Faaborg, Avernakø and Lyø, was sidelined in the port of Faaborg with considerable technical problems. The service between Faaborg, Lyø and Avernakø was taken over by an emergency ferry, the "Freia", with room for only 30 passengers and no cars. Already in the night of July 14 the ferry had to cancel the day's last sailing due to technical problems which were still not resolved the following morning. At Lyø Holiday Apartments ten guests were stranded and had to wait for the ferry to sail again which was the case in the afternoon.
Ferry operational again
The "Faaborg III" returned on the Faaborg - Lyø - Avernakø route again in the morning of Apr 12 after the ferry was hit by an engine failure only a few days after it had returned to the route following a major service inspection. The repair had been carried out at the Faaborg ferry terminal. The smaller "Sydfyn" had served as a replacement ferry in the meantime, but safety rules made it necessary to cancel some evening departures on Apr 10, 11 and 12.
