Tankers broke off moorings
In the evening of Oct 11, 2015, the mooring lines of the three tankers "Aegean Rose", "Eviapetrol IV" and "Menalon", all being berthed in Elevsis at the Hellenic Petroleum terminal, broke due to a sudden weather deterioration. The crews and Hellenic Petroleum terminal staff managed to switch off fuel pumping and disconnect cargo hoses, but fuel remaining in hoses leaked into the water, causing a pollution of about 500 square meters. The "Aegean Rose" and "Eviapetrol IV" drifted against each other with the "Aegean Rose" suffering scratches and dent at portside and the "Eviapetrol IV" sufferiing dented and broken railings on the cargo deck.Both tankers were detained for surveys and investigations.
