Guard ship stuck in ice
On March 4, 2018, at 5.20 a.m. the "Eversand“ radioed a mayday after the ship got stuck in thick ice between the islands Borkum and Juis, south of Memmert island and threatened to be pushed aground. The lifeboat "Alfried Krupp" of the DGzRS station Borkum had received the alert but would have suffered problems to get to the distressed ship in a distance of 15 kilometers due to the thick ice. A rewcue helicopter in Glücksbourg was put on alert in case the crew of four would have to be taken off, but at 10.30 a.m. the guard ship drifted into deeper water again with the outgoing tide and managed to regain its guard position again around midday.
