Dredge barge took on water
The 'Everett Fisher' (274 gt, built 1968) was intentionally run aground in the Matagorda Ship Channel near Port Lavaca, Texas, in the evening of Jan 20, 2020. Coast Guard Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi watchstanders were notified after the dredge barge began taking on water. The tug 'Dana Robyn' pushed the 'Everett Fisher' aground and took the four crewmembers off. There were no reported injuries. Due to the location of the grounded dredge barge a safety zone has been established from mile marker 51 to mile marker 66 on the Matagorda Ship Channel. Members from Marine Safety Detachment Victoria were on scene. On Jan 22 the Matagorda Ship Channel was reopened for vessel traffic following the successful removal of the 'Everett Fisher.' in zhe evening of Jan 21. As a precautionary measure containment boom was put in place throughout the salvage operation, and Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi personnel monitored the situation to ensure the vessel was safely removed from the channel. There was no reported pollution. The cause of the vessel taking on water was under investigation.
