Languishing ferry underway to breakers in Turkey
The Piraeus Port Authority (PPA) managers were reliefed when the former NEL Lines ferry "European Express" on Jan 27, 2019, was towed out of the port of Perama by the tug "Christos XXII" bound to breakers in Aliaga. The ferry had been laid up since 2014 and was repeatedly involved in incidents like allisions when breaking lose from its mooring or suffering water ingress.
Ferry sold probably for scrap
The "European Express", which was laid up at Piraeus port since 2014, was in auction sold in November 2018 probably for scrapping to Environmental Protection Engineering (EPE). The date of auction was unknown. The ferry had suffered water ingress in the engine room while anchored off a shipyard at Perama on Apr 3m 2018, and developed a slight list to starboard. Engineers boarded the vessel and detected and stemmed the water ingress.
