Oil leakage in Vancouver
In the morning of Jan 21, 2023, a fuel leak occurred from the 'Europe' in the English Bay in Vancouver. Between 60 and 100 liters of fuel have spilled into the sea. An operation is underway in the Port of Vancouver at the Spanish Banks beach area. A pilot from the seaplane company Harbor Air had remarked the spill at around 11:40 a.m. After investigations, the Canadian Coast Guard determined that the leak originated from the 'Europe', which had arrived in Vancouver on Ja 15 after leaving Prince Rupert on Jan 13. A boom was laid out around the ship. The Greater Vancouver Integrated Action Plan has been activated and the different levels of government have been notified. Teams were on site, including the Western Canadian Marine Response Corporation (WCMRC), based in Saanish. On Jan 22 the situation was stable with no further fuel leaks. Transport Canada was working with the captain and owner of the vessel to determine the cause of the leak.
