Collision in Dardanelles
The bulkcarriers "ESL Dolphin" and "Free State" were in collision while crossing the Dardanelles strait collided on Aug 25, 2019, at 2,10 a.m. between Gallipoli and Bosphorus exit. The ships suffered slight damage. The tugs "Kurtarma 6" and "Kurtarma 10" as well as the lifeboat "Kiyem 9" were deployed to assist. The "Free State" was enroute from King Abdullah Port in Saudi Arabia to Burgas, the "ESL Dolphin" ballasting from Eren to Gibraltar. The ships moored at Sevketiye anchorage for investigations after which the "ESL Dolphin" resumed the voyage to Gibraltar on Aug 26 with an ETA as of Sep 3. The "Free State" also resumed its voyage from King Abdullah Port and dropped anchor off Burgas on Aug 28 at 1 a.m. On Aug 29 it remained moored off the port in pos. 42° 29.63' N 027° 32.19' E.
Medevac off Cold Bay
A Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew medevaced a crewman from the "Shagangfirst Power" to Cold Bay on Nov 21, 2011. Coast Guard watchstanders received a call via radio from the bulkcarrier reporting a 23-year-old Chinese crewman was suffering from abdominal pain. The Shagangfirst Power and crew were about 72 miles from Cold Bay at the time of the request. The rescue crew, forward deployed on the Coast Guard Cutter "Sherman", launched from the cutter and arrived on scene safely hoisting the patient at 5:35 p.m. The helicopter crew flew to Cold Bay transferring the patient to awaiting emergency medical personnel who took him to the Cold Bay clinic for further medical care.
