Collision at Schuouwenbank anchorage

Mon Nov 21 09:42:23 CET 2016 Timsen

In the morning of Nov 20, 2016, at 11 a.m. the "Berwick" was in collision with the "Victoria" on the North Sea near the anchorage area West Schouwenbank off the coast of Schouwen-Duiveland. Although she lost two anchors, "Victoria" could continue the voyage. The "Berwick", with a crew of 19 on board, lost her port anchor. In addition, the ship suffered engine problems. The ship went adrift and headed toward the platform area Maas North near Rotterdam. Two tugs, among them the "Smit Cheetah" (photos: http://www.tugspotters.com/app/content/2016/11/smit-cheetah-maasmond-20-11-2016/), were sent out to assist. The "Cheetah" reached the accident site around 3 p.m. Already around 3:45 p.m. the "Berwick" had regained propulsion and was safely moored again. The "Ruby" was stood down. The "Berwick" had left the port of Flushing on Nov 16 at 9 p.m. for orders. The "Victoria" remained at Steenbank. At the time of the accident there were winds of 8-10 Beaufort.
