Collision on Punta Indio Channel

Sat Sep 17 15:59:22 CEST 2016 Timsen

The bulkcarrier "Rich Future" collided with the "Charlton" on Sep 15 , 2016, around noon on the Punta Indio Channel, Rio de la Plata. The bulkcarrier, which was en route to San Lorenzo, resumed the voyage after the collision and moored on San Lorenzo anchorage on the Paraná river in the afternoon of Sep 16. The tanker remained at anchor on the Punta Indio Channel, and the Uuruguayan Navy deployed the "ROU 34 - Audaz" to the area which sent a semi-rigid boat for visual inspection of the hull of the stricken vessel. The hull had suffered significant damage at port side at the height of the accomodation block. Upon approaching the stricken vessel, it was confirmed that one crew member had suffered a cut in the face which required medical attention. The man was stable and transferred ashore for treatment. The tanker was en route from Buenos Aires to Dakar.
