Fishing vessel obviously sank
On Jan 26, following a storm, the 'Enigma Astralis' disappeared from radar, and a search operation commenced involving 11 vessels located in the area. On Jan 28, on of them, the Russian fishing vessel 'Imatra'´(IMO: 8859768), using sonar, discovered a sunken object in the vicinity of the last position of the 'Enigma Astralis'. Another Russian fishing vessel, the 'Kalinovka' (IMO: 8423272) was now sent to the area of the sunken object, attempting to verify that the sonar contact was indeed the 'Enigma Astralis'. On Jan 27, the Federal Agency for Maritime and River Transport concluded that the wreck's signature was indeed that of the 'Enigma Astralis'. Russia's Far Eastern Transport Prosecutor’s Office was investigating the circumstances of the fire, including a review of the vessel's statutory compliance.
Another explosion off Magadan
After the fire in the Sea of Okhotsk, 80 miles off Magadan, on Jan 21, the RCC Rosmorrechflot sent the LSS 'Sibirskiy' to tow it to the port of Magadan. The ship was still on fire, and in the night of Jan 23 there was another explosion on board accompanied by a strong flash. No injuries were reported in this mishap.
Fire off Magadan
On Jan 21, 2020, at 12.25 p.m. a fire broke out aboard the 'Enigma Astralis' in the Okhotsk Sea southeast of Magadan, about 262 kilometers northwest of the village of Ust-Khayryuzovo. The crew could not start the water pumps when the fire started which caused strong smoke development. Therefore, the captain decided to eabandon ship. At 2:50 p.m. the crew of 47 was evacuated by the nearby fishing vessel 'Yumir' and was to be taken to the Vsevolod Sibirtsev floating plant. The fire has meanwhile been extinguished. No pollution, no injuries reported. Around 10 p.m. a rescue vessel approached the vessel, but no boarding manoever was expected to take place during the night.
