Accused of illegal charcoal trade, Somalia
Somalia environment group Mareeg.com issued a statement informing the Security Council, Amisom (African Union Mission in Somalia) and Somalia government, that the charcoal trade, prohibited by the UN, is still going on. Group slated Kenyan peacekeepers for the renewal of the charcoal trade. According to Group’s information, general cargo vessel Energy 3, operated by Lebanon-based company, was chartered by two well-known Somalia charcoal traders. The cargo of charcoal is to be delivered to port Rashid, Dubai, UAE. Group reported, that vessel left Mogadishu on July 26, and asked the UN and other organizations to ban vessel from entering UAE ports. Also, Group is insisting on revealing the names of UAE companies which are involved in illegal charcoal trade. Last AIS signal from m/v Energy 3 dated July 22, and probably, transmitter is switched off since then.
