Super yacht damaged in allision
The "Encore" collided with a Tauranga pier after a miscalculation of tidal flow on Dec 8, 2018. The incident took place while the yacht was in Tauranga being painted at the new marine precinct. Vessel Works had hoisted the luxury yacht back into the water on Dec 6. The vessel remained in the travel-lift berth for several days while equipment was loaded. While trying to depart the vessel collided with a wooden pile damaging the ship. The incident was a result of captain error. He underestimated the tidal flow on the still incoming tide, and the yacht hit a wooden pile at the end of Bridge Wharf, suffering scrapes. On Dec 8 at 10.30 p.m. the ship left the port and headed to Auckland, where it berthed on Dec 9 at 9.30 a.m. Report with photos: https://www.stuff.co.nz/bay-of-plenty/109222162/50-million-superyacht-encore-damaged-after-colliding-with-pier-in-tauranga
