Gas leaked after ship broke lose

Fri Mar 19 10:39:34 CET 2021 Timsen

The 'Empery' broke off her moorings in strong North winds with speeds of more than 100 km/h and high swells at the Coatzacoalcos port on March 18, 2021, at noon, while offloading 4.000 tons of ethane at pier 6. The cargo hose was detached, and some gas was released in the air. As soon as the hose detached, pumps automatically closed down, so the only gas which leaked was inside the hose. At the time of the incident, 1,530 tons of ethane which had been loaded in Houston, had been unloaded, with 2,470 tons remaining. All port workers in the dock area were evacuated as a precaution. The ship drifted onto the river until tugs got it under control and pulled it back to its berth.
