Barge got lose and entangled in buoy
On Nov 1, 2019, at 3.40 a.m. the 'Elsava' broke lose from its anchorage where it was stuck outside the fairway since Oct 22, due to the rising water level on the Danube. The ship drifted 100 meters downstream and allided with a fairway buoy at Stephansposching in the Deggendorf municipality. The buoy got entangled with the rudder of the barge which was disabled and now blocking the fairway. The river authority blocked ship traffic at the accident site. The police in Deggendorf launched an investigation. The 'Elsava' berthed in the port of Deggendorf the same day at 10.50 a.m. She left the port of Deggendorf after inspections and repairs on Nov 5 at 6.40 a.m. and headed to Donauvjaros.
Grounding on Danube
In the evening of Oct 22, 2019, the 'Elsava' (EU-No.: 04403770), ran aground on the Danube at Stephansposching in the Deggendorf municipality in pos. 48° 49.73' N 012° 49.97' E. It was enroute with a cargo of 850 tons malt from Regensburg to Dunaujvaros when it got out of the fairway obviously by a navigational mistake and ran onto a gravel bar. On Oct 23 a salvage attempt was to be undertaken. At 1 p.m. the ‘Regen‘ of the river authority Deggendorf attended the barge.
Grounded barge refloated
The "Elsava" was refloated by the ice breaker "Angermünde" which had been called from Wüprzburg on Feb 26 around 2 p.m. and pulled back into the fairway. Traffic on the Main was then allowed again at the grounding site at Lohr.
