Fjell recovers drifting cabin cruiser
In the morning of Aug 23, 2012, the "Fjell" was scrambled to recover a 30-ft-cabin cruiser with engine failure in Forlandssundet. The cabin cruiser with three people on board had set off from Longyearbyen in the afternoon of Aug 22. The boat was heading north, but in Forlandssundet the engine overheated and stopped. The boat drifted southward with a speed of 1.5 knots. The MRCC was notified at 2:20 next morning. The Port Authority boat "Fjell" was sent. At 5:30 a.m. the "Fjell" was on scene began the difficult task of towing the boat back to Longyearbyen. The boats were expected to Longyearbyen the following night.
