Tanker spent night at Deutz after fire was doused

Mon Aug 12 09:15:08 CEST 2013 Timsen

After the fire broke out aboard the "Elisabeth Jaegers" on Aug 10 around p.m. on the Rhine near Lobith, about 40 men of the Dutch and German fire brigade fought against the flames and succeeded to contain the fire within the engine room. Though the cargo tanks were empy, there was the threat of an explosion as the ship was not yet degased. As the fire boat from Emmerich was in a yard, the fire brigades from Kleve, Rindern, Düffelward, Keeken, Wardhausen-Brienen, Griethausen, Warbeyen and Schenkenschanz were alarmed at 4.17 p.m. and located the ship 60 meters off the shore at Vossegatt, where it was already being attended by their Dutch colleagues. The wind had caused the fire to re-emerge after first attempts to douse it, so that timewise the Rhine was closed by the German and Dutch water police. The fire brigade Kleve ventilated the casualty after the fire was out. The ship was then taken to Lobith with blackened wheelhouse, and pulled river upstream on Aug 11 and docked in Duisburg-Ruhrort on Aug 12. Fire on tanker on the Rhine

Sun Aug 11 09:30:22 CEST 2013 Timsen

In the afternoon of Aug 10, 2013, at 4 p.m. a fire broke out in the engine room of the "Elisabeth Jaegers" on the Rhine near Tolkamer. Fire brigades from Nijmegen and Wesel attended, also fire boats were dispatched. The ship was on the right bank when the fire broke out. It left the quay and anchored at a safe place, where the crew first tried to extinguish the fire with own means. At 5 p.m. the fire was under control. The ship was then ventilated and cooled down. The tanker was empty, but had carried a cargo of naphta before.
