Feeder ran aground in the Kiel Canal
On Jan 31, 2017, short past midnight the "Elbsailor" suffered an engine failure and threatened to run into the embankment close to the ferry pt. Schacht-Audorf during the Eastbound transit of the Kiel Canal. The ship was enroute from Hamburg, where it had departed on Jan 30 at 3.40 p.m., to St. Petersburg. After an emergency anchoring it blocked the canal as no other ships could pass in the narrow fairway at the accident site. The tugs "Stein" and "Holtenau" were called from Kiel at 3 a.m. At 6 a.m. they managed to pull the ship out of the fairway. It was secured at the dolphins in Klein-Königsförde where the crew worked to fix the engine damage jointly with technicians of the Gebr. Friedrich Yard in Kiel which had been called and were transferred on board the casualty. In the afternoon the ship resumed the voyage with the "Holtenau" as stern tug and reached Kiel at 6.30 p.m. She entered the waters of the Baltic Sea at 7.15 p.m. German reports with photos: http://www.kn-online.de/News/Nachrichten-vom-NOK/Nord-Ostsee-Kanal-durch-Containerschiff-blockiert http://www.shz.de/lokales/landeszeitung/havarie-auf-dem-nord-ostsee-kanal-fuenf-stunden-vollsperrung-id15982851.html
