Ferry evacuated after smoke development in engine room
The 'Elbmeile' (MMSI: 211437290) i; CS: DH2272) on its way from Hamburg Landing Bridges to Finkenwerder, was evacuated early on Nov 1, 2024. The approximately 50 passengers had to leave the ferry at the penultimate station at the Bubendey-Shore. Te evacuation was calm and orderly. The ferry had already been evacuated before the fire department arrived. There was a slight development of smoke in the engine room which was cauised by a hot V-bel. After it was ensured that no fire could break out, the rescue forces were stood down again.
Harbour ferry hijacked by PKK activists
Several Kurds on Apr 19, 2012, have tried to hijack the "Elbmeile" in the port of Hamburg. Off Finkenwerder they stormed the wheelhouse and locked themselves in. They instructed the captain not to berth in Finkenwerder but to remain on the Elbe. In addition, they unfurled a banner with reference to the head of the Kurdistan Workers Party PKK, Abdullah Ocalan. Passengers alerted the police. After about 40 minutes the water police boarded the ferry which was bobbing in the harbor. The four women and five men have been arrested. The offenders have been armed and were arrested without resistance. A special task force had been put on standby, but was not used. The water police brough the 60 passengers ashore after the ship was back under control and finally had berthed. The detainees were interrogated. The State Security took over the investigation. The participants are facing investigations because of endangering the ship traffic.
