Crew paid after more than three months
The crew of the "Eleousa Trikoukiotis " which is stuck in Ghent since June 6, 2011, with engine trouble has finally received their salaries. The Ghent port on Aug 30 announced that the ship is towed to Rotterdam. The port operator and the local CPAS had supplied the crew with water, food and fuel during the recent weeks. On Aug 27 the 10 Ukrainians, the Russian captain and a Filipino were paid and left for home. The ship will be towed to 's Gravendeel (Rotterdam) as soon as there is an agreement with the Maltese flag state and the Shipping Control. Then, the shipping agent Wallem Group Limited (Hong Kong), will put up the ship for sale.
Crew will stay until August 5
The twelve crew members of the " "Eleousa Trikoukiotis" which is stuck in Ghent since early June will have to stay aboard until August 5. This was decided after consultation between the crew and the Port of Ghent Authority. The ship is seized since July 20. The owner of the ship has made money available for fuel for the generator so that electricity for heating, lighting and refrigerators is available. The Red Cross is preparing now for the repatriation of the crew.
Seized tanker provided with food
Ghent Port on July 27, 2011, delivered food and water to twelve remaining crew of the "Eleousa Trikoukiotis" which is berthed in the Kluizen Dock since June 6. The ship was seized and the Port Authority was taking action because the fuel supply and provisions for the crew were low and the generators were running out of fuel. Early in June the ship had delivered oil to the company Algist Bruggeman, but then had suffered engine trouble. On July 20 the ship was seized because there were problems with the payment of wages. On July 22 were delivered 20,000 liters water. Together with the Red Cross, the repatriation of part of the crew to their homelands is being prepared.
