28 people rescued during SAR operation, 16 still missing
In the frame of the SAR operation in which the 'El Fateh' was involved, 28 people of the liveaboard 'Sea Story' were rescued and taken ashore on Nov 25. Among the 16 still missing persons were 12 non-Egyptians. The 'Sea Story'Ä apparently capsized after a wave struck and ank within five to seven minutes, trapping people inside. The ship had a total of 44 people on board, among them 31 tourists and 13 crew members, according to a revised number issued by the Red Sea Governorate. A number of the tourists were reported to have been in their cabins when the wave struck the 34-m metre long Egyptian-owned vessel, Among the passengers were UK, Belgian, US, Irish, Chinese, Finns, Germans, Poles, Slovakians, Spanish, and Swiss people. The Egyptian Meteorological Authority had forecast rough and turbulent seas in the Red Sea area, advising the suspension of all non-shipping maritime activities on Nov 24 and Nov 25. Three bodies have been recovered as of Nov 25, while 16 people were still missing. The SAR operation is being co-ordinated by the Egyptian military and the Red Sea Governate, with arimed forces aircraft deployed to the scene as part of the response. Some castaways were airlifted to receive medical treatment.
Frigate involved in SAR operation after liveaboard with 45 people on board sank
After the Egyptian tourist ship 'Sea Story' has sunk in the Shaab Satayeh area, north of Marsa Alam city, with 45 people, including 31 tourists, on board on the morning of Nov 25, 2024, the 'Al Fateh' was involved in the SAR operation on Nov 25, 2024. The dive boat had departed from Porto Ghalib Port in Marsa Alam and was supposed to return to the port of Hurghada after a scuba diving trip, when it issued a distress signal at 5.30 a.m, before losing contact. The nationalities of those involved were not yet clear. 14 crew members are also missing. The governorate's control center informed various authorities, including the Maritime Rescue Center, and SAR teams began their operations using a helicopter and the frigate, which moved from Berenice Port towards the site. 16 survivors were found near the coastal town of Marsa Alam, They were brought to safety by plane and a frigate and received medical treatment.
