Tanker aground off Psara
The "Eko 2" carrying an unknown quantity of oil products has run aground off the coast of Psara, an islet northwest of Chios in the eastern Aegean Sea on Jan 16, 2018. The tanker with a crew of 17 was en route from Lesvos to Chios on its first visit to Psara, in order to supply the only service station for liquid fuels. It got stuck in south winds of 6 to 7 beauforts in a sandy area about 30 meters from the Spitalia area of Psara. A tug was called from Chios and it was hoped to be able to deliver the cargo so that the inhabitants of Psara do not run out of fuel. Greek Coastguard authorities are monitoring the situation in case of a leak, while a tug was on the way to help refloat the tanker. There have been no reports of injuries. The tanker was successfully pulled off in the run of the day.
