Tug sank in choppy weather

Sun Jan 08 16:41:20 CET 2023 Timsen

On Jan 6, 2023, the patrol boat HMS 'Medway' rescued all five crew members of the 'EG Express' in the Caribbean when the vessel started to make water in choppy seas. The crew was plucked off the barge 'Winbuild 1810', loaded with sand, which they had been towing when their tug began to flood en route from St.Thomas to Barbuda, in pos. 17 33 00 N, 063 18 00 W. When the vessel’s engines failed, they took refuge on the barge and issued a distress call at around 1 p.m. about 20 miles west of Sint Maarten, near the British Overseas Territory of Anguilla. The castaways were taken aboard the patrol ship and later handed over to an SAR boat from Anguilla.
