Tanker hit railway bridge
On July 1, 2018, at 9.30 p.m. the 'Ecotanker III’, 2865 dwt (EU-No.: 02335378), allided with the railway bridge in Venlo. Train traffic over the bridge was stopped as a precaution until an investigation showed theat the bridge suffered only slight damage. The tanker which was loaded with diesel and sailing in southbound direction from Rotterdam to Roermond on the Maas berthed at the Belfeld lock after the accident. It got its bow crushed in the impact. On July 2 it continued the voyage to be unloaded before repairs may start. The ship arrived at the Holland Shipyard in Giessendam for repairs on July 3 at 7.50 p.m. It left the yard again after repairs which had started on July 3, on Aug 5 around 8 a.m., next being bound to Amsterdam where she arrived at 5.30 p.m. and proceeded to the petrol port in Nieuwegin after cargo operations.
